In February 2019, Florida rappers YNW Melly (real name: Jamell Demons) and YNW Bortlen (real name: Cortlen Henry) were arrested for the murder of ambitious rappers Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy ”Thomas Jr. Now, almost two years after Melly’s detention, the rapper is being sued by the Thomas and Willaims estate, as TMZ reported.
According to TMZ, the two families Williams and Thomas filed a lawsuit against Melly about the false death. Claimed damages are reported as “millions or tens of millions of dollars or more”, according to court documents viewed by TMZ. The lawsuit filed by the Anthony Williams family reports that Melly killed him for money, and that greed was a factor in the alleged murders. Melly̵7;s mother and his manager are also said to be in both suits. It was reported that Williams’ estate was reported by Melly’s manager who drove Melly off the crime scene.
After Melly and YNW Bortlen were arrested in February 2019, both were charged with two first-degree murder charges. Melly and Bortlen later pleaded not guilty to both counts. In April 2019, it was revealed that the State of Florida was planning to seek the death penalty for Melly.
Earlier this year, Melly tested positive for COVID-19 in custody, however he was denied release. In May, Bortlen Henry was issued a bond.
