Young Sheldon just ended a surprise reunion “Shamy”.
During season 4 premiere on Thursday, Jim Parsons reunited with Mayim Bialik, who re-exported her The Big Bang Theory Sheldon’s wife, Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler, in a voiceover. As the Cooper family gathered in the backyard to celebrate Sheldon graduating from high school, as did his twin sister Missy graduating in the sixth grade, Sheldon The Storyteller (voiced by Parsons) said “it was a great graduation party. Best I̵7;ve ever been to… until we’ve got one for me Boy, Leonard Cooper.
“I want his name to be Leonard Nimoy Cooper, but Amy won’t let me, ”he revealed. That’s when Bialik stepped in as Sheldon’s better half and said, “Luckily I let you name him Leonard.” This is followed by the “I love you’s” exchange, before the episode turns black.
Below, co-creator Steve Molaro series gives TVLine an internal story about that surprise Big Bang That very sweet reunion and revelation.
TVLINE | Mayim Bialik’s cameo came out earlier this year, when this episode was originally intended to be the finale of your Season 3?
[Amy’s voiceover] still not in the script [pre-pandemic]But Sheldon was always talking about his son, Leonard Cooper, always.
TVLINE | So when did you come up with the idea of reuniting Sheldon and Amy as this?
Looking back at the script, I want to add a joke I’ve been thinking about for a long time: that Sheldon might want to name his son Leonard, and give him his middle name Nimoy. Then I toyed with [the idea], “Wouldn’t it be fun to hear Amy say, ‘Just rejoice that I allowed you to name him Leonard’?” And I thought, “Well, there are no rules of narrative. Let’s put it in and see if Mayim can do it. “I called Mayim and she was happy [do it]; [she] thought it was really fun.
TVLINE | Is there any chance Sheldon wants to name his son not just after Leonard Nimoy, but also after his good friend, Leonard Hofstadter?
He Was named after the Hofstadter. Nimoy’s middle name seems like an added bonus, but to me he’s named after Leonard Hofstadter, certainly, without a doubt.
TVLINE | On Big BangYou never plan too far in terms of the story. But with any future revelations above Young Sheldon, it feels like you’re setting up a clearer and clearer picture of Sheldon’s life after the events Big BangFinal 2019 series. Will that become part of the goal with this spinoff?
No plans are outlined, but I have my own thoughts on the characters and where they are now, as well as where Sheldon is with Amy right now. If it’s appropriate to slide something here and there, I’d love to do it.
TVLINE | This season is expected to follow Sheldon into college at East Texas Tech. Are new and stringent COVID protocols forcing you to temporarily change the narrative gears? I imagine it would be difficult to shoot some campus scenes right now, perhaps with some extras.
We have to start writing before we know when we are [going back into production], so it seemed easier to be in a hurry to get into college and hang out with the Coopers that summer [before school starts]. Somewhere around Episode 6 is when his college life will begin.
TVLINE | What does a summer at home with Coopers look like?
I mean, they definitely left home. Sheldon and Missy went to the Bible camp, Sheldon volunteered at the train museum … We’re out of the world, we’re not on campus yet.
TVLINE | Will the new protocols affect how often we see some of the show’s repeating characters, like Craig T. Nelson Dale (who reconciled with Connie during the launch) and Wallace Shawn’s Dr. Sturgis, Who teaches at East Texas Tech?
It will affect Dr. Sturgis. Craig T. is in LA, and is working on a number of upcoming episodes. Wallace Shawn is based in New York. He will be participating in upcoming episodes, [and we’ll be] filmed pieces in New York for inclusion on the show. He’s coming back a bit after the season, but it was a real challenge [right now].
