Trump chased after FBI director Wray, whom he appointed and issued a warning to Barr

During the discussion of the Justice Department’s investigation into the Russian investigation, Fox Business’s curator Maria Bartiromo asked the President whether FBI director Christopher Wray should resign.

“We know that the FBI lied to the Senate in February 2018. Christopher Wray is running the FBI. President, is Christopher Wray hiding all this and protecting the FBI? function? ” Bartiromo asked.

Bartiromo appears to be referring to Republican Senator Lindsey Graham’s statement that a declassified document he released on Sunday shows that the FBI misled the Senate Intelligence Committee in February 2018 about “primary source” of information in the infamous Steele file. The opposition research file, compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele about Trump and Russia in 201
6, played no role in the initiation of the FBI investigation, according to a report by the inspector general. .
Trump is against Wray, whom he says should provide more documents to John Durham, who was exploited by Barr to lead a review of the origins of the Russian investigation.

“So Christopher Wray was in there. We have an upcoming election. I wish he was more coming, he certainly didn’t. There were documents they wanted to take and we had. “ We want to get in. will find out if he’s giving those documents. But he’s certainly very, very protective, “said the president on Fox Business.

CNN has contacted the FBI and the Justice Department.

Trump told Fox Business that Wray “was put there for a good reason, he was picked by a certain person, and I said, go ahead, put whoever you want. I’m very honest that I said you can put anyone you want. Let’s see how Wray becomes. He’s going to turn one way or another. ”

He continued, “Bill Barr has the chance to be the greatest of all time. But if he wants to be politically right, he’ll just be a different person.”

Barr said in an interview aired on Wednesday he was aiming to draw some conclusions from Durham’s investigation ahead of the November election, giving a better point on a timeline. The timing has changed in recent weeks and also opens up the possibility that the consideration may extend into winter.

“We all know about the calendar and we’re not going to do anything for the sake of influencing an election, but we are trying to get some work done before the election,” Barr told Conservative commentator Buck Sexton.

Trump has previously blamed Wray’s hiring for former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. But the President was the one who nominated Wray to lead the office in 2017, after firing James Comey. Comey has accused Trump of asking him to pledge his allegiance, which Trump has denied.

Trump was dissatisfied with Wray over a series of perceived flaws, mostly linked to conservative claims that the FBI had failed to cooperate with the attempt to review the 2016-2017 Russian investigation.

Fox News hosts and conservative media have attacked Wray over the issue, although there is no evidence that the FBI and Wray have failed to cooperate.

The FBI said that under Wray, it had cooperated with many investigations into the FBI’s handling of the Russian investigation. Wray has assigned agents for some of Barr’s attempts to re-investigate aspects of the Russian investigation.

Barr has also defended Wray, saying that the FBI director has been cooperating with numerous examinations Barr has asked the FBI to handle sensitive issues.

The president has long sought to discredit the Russian investigation and the discovery of special counsel Robert Mueller, doubting whether the FBI even had reason to open a full investigation of his campaign. Last year, he lashed out at Wray after the FBI backed a report by the inspector-general that an investigation into Russian election interference had been properly launched.

CNN’s Veronica Stracqualursi and David Shortell contributed to this report.
