Three more US states launch apps with Apple and Google exposure notification APIs

The exposure notification API developed by Apple and Google is gradually being adopted by public health authorities around the world. And now North Dakota, Wyoming and Alabama have just announced that they are rolling out new apps with Exposure Notification to warn users and reduce the spread of COVID-19.

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum points out that the state is the first state in the US to offer a contact tracking application and it is also the first state to work with the National Key Server.

“Care19 Alert is a powerful tool in the fight against COVID-19 and another example of how we apply technology and innovation to save lives and livelihoods. North Dakota was the first state to launch a contact tracking app and we are now the first to connect the exposure notification system to the National Key Server, allowing Care1

9 Alert to work with similar apps. in other states. This makes Care19 Alert a vital resource in keeping schools and business open while protecting personal privacy. “

North Dakota’s Care19 app is now available on the App Store for iOS users and the Play Store for Android users. Based on Reuters, Wyoming’s contact tracking app will launch this Friday, while the Alabama app is slated to launch on Monday.

The exposure notification API uses Bluetooth technology to exchange random identifiers with nearby phones. Users will be notified if they are around someone who tests positive for COVID-19. This process requires an app from public health agencies to be installed on iPhone or Android device.

If someone tests positive for COVID-19, they can voluntarily report positive test results with the Exposure Notification app for their area. This process is completely anonymous and voluntary.

The COVID-19 Contact Notification API was recently adopted by Canada and Brazil, while the US is taking a state-by-state approach to launch the COVID-19 contact tracking app – with Virginia being first state in the US to launch an application with the official COVID-19 tracking API.
