Take part in the vast storyline on Google’s newest playable Halloween Doodles, which has a history going back long before 2016.
You are a cat. You are also a wizard. There are ghosts, and you fight them with magic.
Okay, that really doesn’t take long.
This year’s Doodle is a live sequel to 2016’s playable Magic Cat Academy Doodle, which features a small black cat named Momo defending a school and her classmates against a bunch of cubs. Ghosts take over the classroom and the kitchen. In that game, you fight the ghosts by drawing symbols on their heads, meaning Momo waved his wand according to the proper gesture and fired an anti-ghost spell. Momo is quiet (makes sense, since cats don’t talk), but she’s still a charismatic character who faces off her mental foe with a slight grimace of determination, and celebrates every level already finished with a swing of the wand and a smug little wink.
The new Doodle 2020 uses the same mechanism and gestures. Only the setting has changed – after Momo defeated the miraculously magnified boss ghost in 2016, it fell into the ocean and is now home to marine, volcanic, and even seemingly water. . The new version offers a few minor changes – a jellyfish shield and a spray attack to replace a lightning bolt you probably won’t want to use underwater. But for the most part, the only changes are the setting and a catfish captain ally takes you into the dark waters.
For those who re-play the 2016 game, though, the 2020 sequel is an adorable little Halloween present. Google brought Momo back in 2017 for a small short film about a lonely ghost searching for her friendship. But while the doodle game gathers the spirit of 2018 strangely addictive and the 2019 trick or treat 2019’s birth schedule is lightly informative, they have given up on Momo. It’s great that she’s back in action.
For fans of these games, it’s worth checking out Google’s posts about Doodles, including development team’s credits, original gaming art, details about the creatures. actually inspired this year’s fighting games and some playful development notes:
The game’s original concept involved a magical cat cooking a soup so delicious that it brought the dead back to life. Connecting soup with Halloween proved too abstract, so the team turned to the idea of a witch school. This has opened the door to a stronger world filled with interesting characters and themes.
