The 49ers on Tuesday were unable to trade Dante Pettis’s broad recipient ahead of the 1pm deadline.
They abandoned him instead, 49ers announced Tuesday afternoon.
Pettis has been a major disappointment in the past two seasons after ending his rookie season well. 49 people traded to pick him up in the second round of the 2018 draft.
But Pettis didn’t show up in training camp in 2019 and plummeted on the depth charts. The last time he caught up with 49ers was on October 31, 2019.

Pettis was up and running for the 49ers for the last time on Sunday. The only time he touched the ball was when he made a critical foul in the warm-up second leg in the third half, when the 49ers were trying to get back into play.
Pettis appeared in 28 games in three seasons with 49ers. He caught 38 passes 576 yards and seven touches of the ball. As a rookie, he captured 27 passes that were 467 yards long and 5 touches in 12 games.
