Sony may not be good at selling smartphones, but it has done a great job of acquiring anime streaming companies. It bought Funimation back in 2017 and now it looks like another deal could be coming to an end that will put Crunchyroll into Sony’s stabilization system for almost a billion dollars.
Sony is reportedly prepared to offer a more than $ 957 million worth of money to Crunchyroll, which looks like a lot of money. After all, the anime is disgusting, it̵7;s correct? Good, It’s correct – but the anime is great too! And Crunchyroll is arguably the biggest name in the anime streaming arena outside of Japan, with more than 70 million members worldwide. Sony has entered the industry; it helped produce popular titles like March Comes In Like A Lion and The Promised Neverland through studio Aniplex.
The competition between streaming companies is heating up, and not everyone can stand the pressure. Streaming services need to appeal to young people and young people like being completely obsessed with anime. When HBO Max launched earlier this year, it partnered with Crunchyroll to stream select shows from its library. With the Crunchyroll acquisition, Sony will have access to more than 1,000 new titles it can use to help increase space in a market expected to reach more than $ 35 billion by 2025.
