A 17-year-old young man was killed and 20 others were injured in Saturday’s overnight shooting in Washington DC. Among the victims was a District 1 policeman on duty, whom Metro Sheriff Peter Newsham said had been shot and “seriously injured.” Judging from the shots fired simultaneously in multiple locations, it seems there were at least three shooters, Newsham said.
Family identified victim of CBS Washington DC WUSA-TV branch is Christopher Brown. His grandmother told WUSA-TV that he was a wonderful person and would lovingly call him “Poppy”.
“You need to stop because you̵7;ve taken something that belongs to me, the hat of someone I love so much and someone I love,” Ms. Patrice Brown told WUSA-TV in a phone call. Talk a few hours after the shooting.
“I know this is not the only child or will be the last,” she continued. “But they need to stop this. I want everyone to be safe and happy. But this is not the way to be safe. And this is not the way to be happy.”
His mother, Artecka Brown, told WUSA-TV that Brown is the father of a 1 year old boy and has another baby on the way. “He’s an innocent king … he just wanted to go to a neighborhood party,” she said.
Newsham said the shooting occurred at a large social gathering place with hundreds in attendance. Newsham said police were at the scene before.
“Preliminary there are police on the scene. I want to confirm that, I want to talk to the management team here and see if we’re doing all we can,” Newsham said. “Because we couldn’t tolerate these types of congregations in our city in COVID-19, it’s too dangerous.”
