The Food and Drug Administration is issuing recall warnings for romaine lettuce in 19 states, including Massachusetts. The FDA reports that California’s Tanimura & Antle manufacturing company is voluntarily recalling single-head romaine lettuce after nearly 4,000 barrels of product may have been contaminated with E. coli. Lettuce is labeled with a “pack” date of October 15 or October 16 and with a UPC number 0-27918-20314-9. According to the FDA, no other product or pack date was recalled and no disease reports associated with romaine lettuce were recalled. Other states affected by the recall include Alaska, Arkansas, California, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. . The US territory of Puerto Rico is also included in the recall.
