Scottish ship derailment caused ‘serious injury’, the report said

Officials said many were injured after the train derailed in Scotland on Wednesday morning, after severe storms and flash floods struck overnight.

“Although details are still being released, I am afraid to say that there have been early reports of serious injuries,” First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said in a statement before parliament. She also called the derailment a “very serious incident” in a tweet Wednesday.

British Police Transport said officers were called at 9:43 am to the railway line near Stonehaven, about 100 miles northeast of Edinburgh, where a train was derailed. Several ambulances, at least one air ambulance and fire truck also quickly arrived at the scene.

The 6:38 am train from Aberdeen to Stonehaven carried four cars with a total of 1

2 passengers, according to Sky News. Three out of the four cars derailed and slid down an embankment.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also tweeted that this was a “very serious incident.”

Before the crash, torrential rains and thunderstorms swept through central and eastern Scotland, causing widespread flooding and power outages, BBC reported.

“We clearly don’t know why the derailment happened, but we have obviously suffered terrible weather here,” said local lawmaker Andrew Bowie.
