There were 587 COVID-19 outbreaks listed as active in Colorado as of November 4.

COLORADO, USA – There were 587 active COVID-19 outbreaks in Colorado that occurred everywhere from school to office to daycare to a group evening.

That’s according to the latest outbreak data from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), which releases its new list every Wednesday.

The CDPHE says 28 days must pass without new illness.

As of October 20, the outbreak at the JBS meat packer in Greeley has been listed as resolved. It has been in operation since April 3, and was the deadliest workplace during the pandemic in Colorado, with six deaths and 292 confirmed cases.

Schools

There are 98 active education-related COVID-19 outbreaks in Colorado. This includes K-12 schools, colleges and universities, as well as administrative offices.

The largest case was at the University of Colorado, where CDPHE reported 1,609 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among students and 26 cases among staff. At Colorado State University in Fort Collins, 678 students tested positive for COVID-19, according to the data.

Outbreaks were reported at smaller K-12 schools, and all involved 10 confirmed cases of students or less.

Child care center

There have also been outbreaks of COVID-19 involving 48 childcare centers in the state, according to CDPHE.

Social gatherings

Many counties in the foreground have limited the size of private social gatherings due to an increase in COVID-19 cases and admissions.

The six social gatherings made the list burst out positively. These include:

  • A bunco night in Mesa County, where seven participants tested positive for COVID-19
  • A dinner party in Pitkin County, where eight attendees tested positive for COVID-19
  • A gathering in Moffat County, where five participants tested positive for COVID-19.
  • A wedding in Pitkin County, where seven participants tested positive for COVID-19.
  • A social gathering in Pitkin County, where six participants tested positive for COVID-19 and another 10 had probable cases.
  • A social gathering in Mesa County, where 9 people test positive for COVID-19 and one may have one.

Restaurants

There are 54 COVID-19 outbreaks active at restaurants in Colorado, according to the CDPHE.

Offices and other outbreaks

According to CDPHE, as some businesses moved employees away from home, there were 41 COVID-19 outbreaks in offices in Colorado.

Prisons, prisons, and correctional facilities

Cases tied to prisons, prisons and correctional facilities exceeded 2,000 cases this week.

  • The Aurora ICE facility has added 77 cases from last week to a total of 100 prisoners who test positive for COVID-19.
  • 546 prisoners tested positive at the Fremont Correctional Facility.
  • Sterling Correctional Facility added seven more cases among the prisoners, bringing the total to 614 people, including 89 employees.
