The Orange County Health Care Authority reported 565 new coronavirus infections as of Sunday, August 9, bringing the county’s cumulative total to 39,641.
The agency noted that the California Reportable Disease Information Exchange had a problem with its application to receive test reports from laboratories and then forward it to CalREDIE. The state health department is trying to address the issue, which could lead to a lower number of COVID-19 positive cases received daily, and lower recently reported tests. On Monday, the agency reported more than 17,000 tests were backlog.
It is estimated that more than half of the reported cases, or 29,931 people as of Sunday, were cured. The number of recoveries is based on the cumulative number of cases 28 days earlier.
There were 6 new deaths reported in Orange County on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 726.
Of the 726 deaths, 284 were residents of skilled nursing facilities, 38 were in assisted living facilities, and one was listed as homeless.
According to the California Department of Health, there have been at least 4,710 new COVID-19 infections in Orange County in the past 14 days.
