Police said a teenager was in critical condition after he set fire to inside an apartment building in the Bronx during a dispute with another man on Wednesday afternoon.
The 18-year-old victim, identified by police sources as Winston Ortiz, was stabbed three times and then watered and lit with a match on the 5th floor of 1045 Woodycrest Ave. at Highbridge around 3pm.
The suspect entered the building about 10 minutes before Ortiz – currently not living there – then launched the attack.
Two neighbors in the building were able to put out the fire using buckets of water before the EMT arrived. Ortiz was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition.
One of the building̵7;s residents, a 34-year-old mother, said she was warned of the horror by a woman screaming in the hallway.

“I stepped outside. I saw the flames, ”said the woman who wanted to remain anonymous.
“I thought her apartment was on fire. And when I passed there, I saw a guy on fire all over.
The witness and the screaming girl’s mother, living on the 6th floor of the building, both poured buckets of water over the burning victim. It is not clear whether the teenage girl and the victim know each other or not.
The incident caused the 34-year-old witness to grieve.
“I’m scared because I have my girls here,” she said. “It is really related.”
Wednesday’s attack came a day after two men were shot in a corner outside the building, police said.
A 21-year-old man was assaulted seven times in the shooting at 4:45 pm. According to police, the other victim, 37 years old, was shot in the leg.
Both shooting victims were taken to Lincoln Hospital and are expected to survive, authorities said.
It is not clear whether the two incidents are related or not. No arrests have been made since Wednesday night.
The 34-year-old mother said the recent outbreak of neighbor violence made her fear about her insecurity.

“Unfortunately in the neighborhood we feel like we’re not safe,” said the mother. “There was a shooting yesterday around the corner. We may need to have some police around the area.
