Microsoft has gone through a long journey of years to replace the Windows Control Panel older than 20 years old with a more Modern version in Settings.
That journey appears to be coming to an end, with Microsoft redirecting users clicking on the Control Panel links to their respective Settings page and, otherwise, rendering the old Control Panel module visible.
This is evident in the latest Windows 10 Internal Preview Build, which will direct you to the Windows 10 About Page under Settings when you try and click the System link in the Control Panel.
WindowsLatest reports that all other shortcuts to the same pages are also blocked, e.g. right click in File Explorer and click Properties, even 3rd party apps have used a CLSID based ID now will open the Modern page.
Of course, Microsoft has done a lot to make sure there̵7;s the same information on the Modern About page as the old System Properties page, but of course the layout is less dense and less intuitive for old users.
Of course, in the end, it makes no sense to keep indefinitely a UI reminiscent of Windows XP, but it’s still a bit sad to see it finally gone.
