PALM BEACH, Fla. Security is heavy at the Morton and Barbara Mandel Entertainment Center in Palm Beach, Fla., Where only one person goes inside barefoot, despite the masked person in this district: First Lady Melania Trump.
The First Lady, who signed with Covid-19 last month, smiled and waved to reporters and said she was feeling “wonderful”. She is surrounded by Secret Service agents, aides and county elections supervisor, Wendy Sartory Link, all wearing masks.
Her husband voted the first day before, but Mrs. Trump said she chose to vote in person at a community center about two miles north of Mar-a-Lago. There are almost three times the number of Republicans compared to Democrats in the two designated electoral districts to vote here.
“It’s Election Day, so I want to come here to vote today for the election,” Mrs. Trump told a small group of journalists who had been shown by the Secret Service.
Voters were removed, but some of her supporters outside held signs, including Christy Moore, whose sign declared: “We ❤️ Melania.”
Mrs. Moore said of the president: “He was anointed by God.
Ms. Sartory acknowledged that there is a masking mission in Palm Beach County but said if voters “cannot” wear a mask, they will not be prevented from their voting.
By 7:30 a.m., 12,000 people had voted in the county. At first, Ms. Sartory said she was worried that the number was too high within 30 minutes of opening the poll and thought that tracking had to be turned off. Certainly a salesman made a mistake. Turns out to be true.
“Everything’s perfect,” she said of Mrs. Trump’s five-minute visit to the polling place. “She was the only voter in the room at the time.”
