The Lions may need a new full-back for Sunday’s match against the Viking.
The team announced on Wednesday that Matthew Stafford has been put on the bench / COVID-19. The reason for the placement is not given because teams are not allowed to say whether a player will continue because of a positive test result or close contact with someone who has a positive test result. The Lions did not report any positive testing on Wednesday morning.
Stafford was on the list for a day this summer after being called a false positive test.
Lions defender Jarrad Davis team was included on the list this week, but many reporters said Stafford’s move had nothing to do with Davis.
If Stafford is at high risk of contact with an infected person, he will have to be away from the group for five days before he can return. NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reports the timing of such exposure will determine if he can play against Minnesota. Chase Daniel will start if Stafford is unable to play.
