On Thursday afternoon, The Simpsons producer James L. Brooks tweeted, “I wouldn’t be surprised if Marge Simpson shared her reaction to Jenna’s footage.”
He’s referring to a tweet from Trump campaign senior legal advisor Jenna Ellis that blew up the day before during Joe Biden’s first official campaign event with his running partner Kamala Harris.
Ellis, who has also driven the latest conspiracy theories about the vice presidential candidate, tweeted in Harris’s speech, “Kamala sounds like Marge Simpson. On Twitter, but the famous cartoon mom is likely to get the last word.
“I don̵7;t usually get into politics,” Marge began in a newly released video Friday morning. “But President Jenna Ellis’s senior adviser just said Kamala Harris sounds like me! Lisa says she didn’t mean it was a compliment. ”
“If so, as an ordinary suburban housewife,” she continued, delving deeply into President Trump’s recent tweets, “I’m starting to feel a little disrespected. I teach my kids not to call their names, Jenna… ”
Then when the clip cuts out The Simpsons The family home at night, Marge added in his breath, “I was going to say I was pissed, but I’m afraid they’ll lose it.”
Of course, although Marge may rarely “get involved in politics”, this is not the first time The Simpsons decided that they needed feedback after someone on the right shared ignorantly misreading their program.
Two years ago, Senator Ted Cruz confidently declared that “The Democrats are the party of Lisa Simpson and the Republicans are the party of Homer and Bart and Maggie and Marge”.
“I like that Mr. Cruz likes it The SimpsonsBut I think his understanding of the characters was weak, ”showrunner Al Jean told The Daily Beast at the time. “I think if he explores Lisa’s positions, he’s an intelligent man, he can change his mind.”
