Rebecca Drysdale has left the position of lead writer Tonight’s show.
This happened just over six months after she was appointed as the lead writer on NBC’s late night show and after a busy week for the show hosted by Jimmy Fallon, earlier this week saw the host Gavin Purcell left, replaced by Jamie Granet-Bederman, and Fallon renewed its contract with the network on its own.
Drysdale, in a private Facebook post first picked by Chicago Sun-Times, saying that the decision to leave is both parties. “They made it clear that I was not suitable for the program, and I disagree. I wish it was different and I was able to be what they needed but that’s not how it happened, ”she wrote.
Drysdale added that she decided to never write another sketch of Donald Trump, saying she didn̵7;t believe mocking him was a good use of power comedy, but said that this is not the reason she left. Tonight’s show.

Drysdale started in The Tonight Show on April 13, in the midst of the pandemic, replacing previous lead writer Nedaa Sweiss, who earlier this week was named the co-host of the show.
She was previously a writer on the comedy Center sketch show of Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key Key and Peelewhere she shared a Peabody Award and three Emmy nominations in writing for a drama genre. Drysdale is also the lead writer on Nickelodeon’s reboot All of that with Keenan Thompson. She also wrote on Basket at FX and High maintenance at HBO.
She started off by forming the comedy group Two White Guys with former roommate at Peele University, performing together at the Random Contest. In 2005, she took home the first Breakthrough Performer award at the Aspen Comedy Festival.
On the film side, she co-wrote the script independently Becks, won the American Fiction Award at the LA Film Festival. Her feature script, Dan Pan, is in development at Netflix starring Adam Sandler. As an actress, Drysdale made an appearance in Orange is the new black, grows captured and 30 Rock. She is represented by Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
