The DK Metcalf Seahawks receiver quickly became one of the best in the tournament. The 49ers became the newest team trying to slow him down.
On Friday, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about Metcalf as a draft outlook.
Shanahan told reporters: “You can see how big he is, how well runs, able to do anything or not. “In his offense a little bit, they didn’t, you know, he stood still. He can’t take as many routes as he does now, so you can’t see all of that. He had the bad luck with some injuries, which I think caused some anxiety, but everyone saw. He’s as good as being there now. He is healthy, plays hard, and he has a great future. I wish he weren’t in our department ”.
He could have been on the team – and on the team. Shanahan chose the recipient of Deebo Samuel near the beginning of the second round. And Samuel was very good. But Metcalf was better.
This is where the real world exercise is of interest. The Seahawks took Metcalf with 64th overall pick. 49ers got 67th pick. They got Jalen Hurd, who landed on IR at the end of the season in each of his two NFL seasons.
