Well, this is definitely an interesting event. Before continuing, let’s know that we currently have more questions than answers regarding this Mustang development but one thing is for sure. President of a major Canadian union for auto workers said shot straight that the 6.8-liter Ford engine is coming soon and it will be used on the Ford F-150 and Mustang. As you can imagine, however, the problem doesn’t Near the simple as that.
This news originated from a press conference held on September 23 by Unifor, the largest private union in Canada and partly created from the former Canadian Auto Workers union. The alliance negotiated with Ford for production and reached a $ 2 billion deal regarding production at various Canadian factories. Several times during the 31-minute press conference, Unifor President Jerry Dias mentioned the new 6.8-liter engine that Ford will build at its Windsor plant.
In an official press release about the deal, Unifor further confirmed the production of the engine but stopped classifying it as a 6.8-liter grinder or stating its use. Here is a specific paragraph from Unifor’s press release:
Highlights of the deal include $ 1.8 billion to retool and build a new battery-powered electric vehicle in Oakville, including a multipurpose crossover vehicle (CUV), and $ 148 million. for Windsor’s powertrain facilities. Ford has committed to supplying the new 6.XL engine to the Windsor Engine Factory and single source assembly of the 5.0L engine and processing existing components to the Essex Engine plant, along with any derivative products. Come on.
This is where it gets really sweet. During the mid-press conference, Dias specifically said the 6.8-liter engine would be used in “derivatives for the Mustang and F-150.” No, that’s not a confirmation from Ford, but we’re not talking about getting tips from Jim, Bob’s uncle, who heard about some new motives through his neighbor’s daughter, who works in product development for an obscure supplier of Ford. With origin, there is some serious weight for this claim.
That still hasn’t stopped us from contacting Ford for an official explanation about both the Mustang and this new engine. Unfortunately, we are simply saying that the company does not comment on speculations about future products. We struggle to classify a statement from a major union president and an official press release as speculation, but for now, it’s the Blue Oval’s story and they’re sticking to it.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at the variables here. Through all this talk, the nature of the motive was never revealed. that is maybe V8 engine, but Ford once produced a 6.8-liter V10 engine. Rumors are also flying on the internet saying that this is a new push engine similar to 7.3, but again, that is not mentioned anywhere in Unifor’s communications. Furthermore, Unifor’s press release seems to go back to the 6.8-liter quote from Dias, calling it 6 instead.Xmechanical. That means there will be multiple configurations of the engine. And yes, it could also mean Dias misinformed everything, making all of this a point of debate.
If Ford is planning to put a 6.8-liter engine on the Mustang, it looks like this factory won’t show up until the next-generation model. And because we couldn’t help falling into the rabbit hole about this, Dias said derivatives by Mustang. Technically, the all-electric Mach-E is a derivative of the Mustang. Would it be stressful to envision Ford building an ICE-powered Mustang SUV in the future? One big enough to warrant a big V8 with top torque? Our passionate souls really don’t want to go that route, but SUVs are everywhere, and packing them with puzzling power isn’t unheard of.
