Apple recently released iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2, the second major update to the iOS and iPadOS 14 operating system update released in September. IOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 come two weeks after launch. iOS 14.1.

The iOS 14.2 Update can be downloaded for free and is available on all eligible devices over the network in the Settings app. To access new software, go to Settings> General> Software Update. Apple has also released iOS 12.4.9 for older devices.

Apple’s new iOS update comes with a number of new features.

New emojis

Apple typically updates iOS with new emojis every fall, and iOS 14.2 is the emoji update. iOS and iPadOS 14.2 include new Emoji 13 characters with options that include teary smile face, ninja, pinch finger, anatomical heart, black cat, mammoth, polar bear, dodo, fly, bell pepper, tamale, bubble tea, potted plant, piñata, plunger, wand, feather, hut, etc., with the full list available here.

Along with emojis, iOS 14.2 also supports Intercom, which turns HomePod, HomePod mini and other devices into intercom systems that can be used indoors.

Internal communication

Intercom allows family members to communicate with each other indoors by sending and receiving spoken messages through the ‌HomePod‌ speaker or via iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods and CarPlay. The intercom can be activated by saying “Hey ‌Siri‌, Intercom” to activate it, followed by a message, and it can even be used when everyone else is away.

You can choose specific HomePods or devices in your home to send messages to everyone in your family or reply to intercom messages sent by others. On devices like ‌‌iPhone‌‌ and ‌‌iPad‌‌, Intercom messages are displayed as notifications with the option to listen to audio messages.

Also regarding ‌HomePod‌, the standard full-size ‌HomePod‌ can now be connected to the Apple TV 4K for stereo, surround sound, and Dolby Atmos sound.

New music recognition and play widget

In Control Center, there is a new Music Recognition toggle button that allows the integration of the Apple-owned Shazam app into the iOS operating system. Music Recognizer lets you discover music playing around you, and it can recognize music playing in apps even when you’re wearing ‌AirPods‌.

Music recognition can be added to Control Center through the Settings app and it can be used by activating Control Center and then tapping on the Shazam icon to recognize songs, one too simpler menu requires ‌Siri‌ or open the Shazam application.

There is a redesigned Now Playing widget in Control Center that lists the recently played albums that you might want to listen to when no music is playing. There’s also a redesigned interface for AirPlay, which makes streaming music on multiple ‌AirPlay‌ 2 compatible devices at the same time easier.

Battery charger optimized for AirPods

‌AirPods‌ owners should be aware that the iOS 14.2 update adds battery charging optimized for ‌AirPods‌, which will slow down battery aging by reducing the time ‌AirPods‌ takes to fully charge. The feature works by tracking your usage habits and avoiding a full charge until before ‌AirPods‌ is needed.

A14 camera features for iPad

For iPad Air owners, the ‌iPadOS 14‌ update that adds new A14 camera functionality has also been introduced in the iPhone 12 lineup. Scene Recognition uses intelligent image recognition to identify objects to improve photos, and Auto FPS reduces the frame rate when recording video to improve low-light performance.

Detecting people

For those with low vision, Apple added a new accessibility feature “Detect people” in the Magnifier app to take advantage of the camera to let ‌iPhone‌ users know the distance of others, a great deal. Useful tools to stay away from society.

Change the Apple Watch app

As for the Apple Watch app on ‌‌iPhone‌‌, Apple tweaked the design a bit, updating the watch with one of the new Apple Watch Solo Loop straps that came with the Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE.

Apple card features

With the iOS 14.2 update, Apple Card users will get an annual spending history option that lets them see how much they’ve spent in the current calendar year, and how much daily they’ve earned. Prior to iOS 14.2, ‌Apple Card‌ spending activity was limited to weekly or monthly summary.

New wallpaper

There are eight new wallpaper options available in iOS 14.2, both artistic and realistic scene with different interfaces for light and dark modes.
