Google implemented a new Search feature in India that allows influencers, business people, freelancers, or anyone else who wants to be easily spotted online creating a virtual access token in the new endeavor most companies to add more LinkedIn -esque the function into its search engine.
The company says it has implemented a feature, called the people tag, for the first time in India because people with special ties on the world̵7;s second-largest internet market have demonstrated a name lookup of themselves on search engines. The Everyone Card currently only supports English.
Users can tag people about themselves by logging in to their Google account and then looking up their names on Google search. This will prompt a new option called “add me to Search” or “start”; tapping that will open a form asking users to provide a profile (description) of themselves, their picture (by default, Google fetches the image associated with the user’s Google account) , links to their website and social network profiles, and optionally their phone number, address, job and education details, and email address.
Google says the more information a user provides, the easier it is for others to find it on Google Search. The company says it has taken a number of measures to limit potential abuse of the new feature. One of them is the limit on the number of person tags a Google account can create – it’s set to one tag.
“We have several mechanisms in place to protect against abuse or spam content, and if you come across low-quality information or a tag that you think was generated by an impostor, you can click the response link to let us know. If you no longer want your person tag to appear in Search, you can remove it at any time, ”wrote Lauren Clark, Product Manager for Search at Google, in a blog post.
The People tag appears to be Google’s latest step towards bringing more functionality into Search and thus reducing the user’s dependence on many other services. In this case, the feature is partly aimed at LinkedIn – although the user cannot add others they find on Google Search as a connection. Two years ago, the company added job listing discovery to Search in India after launching in the US in 2017.
“For millions of influencers, entrepreneurs, potential employees, self-employed individuals, freelancers or anyone else who wants to be discovered, we hope this new Search feature will Help the world find them. For people in India searching on mobile phones, the people tag will be rolled out in English starting today, ”Clark wrote.
