“We had the opportunity to investigate the unit from the customer and combined with our quality control data from the factory, we were able to confirm that there was a change in the gap between the machine body and the screen. Image is a normal part of the design of the Pixel 5. Do not affect the water resistance and dust resistance or functionality of the phone. We will work with customers on an individual basis to address any concerns they may have ”.
However, some gaps are clearer than others, and at least one Pixel 5 owner has seen dust build up in it. Unfortunately, the expert did not explain why there was “a change in the distance between the body and the screen”; and if it was due to the assembly process. The good news is that Google appears willing to replace the affected devices, based on reports by the owners who asked the company to successfully swap phones. We reached out to Google for more information about the issue and what the customer can do and will update this post as we receive a response.
