Trump’s election campaign posted videos to Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube – where it has raked in millions of views. No company has taken any action against the video. By Wednesday morning, the video had received almost 2 million views and had been retweeted at least 9,700 times.
The president is also playing video at his rallies across the country this week, using it as a way to confirm that Biden is not fit for the office.
Trump’s team has repeatedly pushed misleading videos to try to support this point. Some have been selectively edited. Others are simple fake.
And this week, the campaign is promoting a clip that appears to be Biden saying he is running for George Bush, not Trump.
The videos seem to be catching the attention of Trump supporters.
Similarly, before Trump’s event in West Salem, Wisconsin, on Tuesday, a woman interviewed by CNN said that Biden would not be able to run the country due to his mental prowess. “He forgot where he was, he forgot who he was up against, he forgot what he was running for,” she said.
When asked when Biden had forgotten who he was running for, she cited the misleading clip the Trump campaign pushed through this week to show the former vice president saying he was running against Bush.
Here are details of the video:
The full interview is part of the “I Will Vote” virtual concert, hosted by comedians George Lopez and Ana Navarro, a CNN political commentator. The 27-second video widely shared on social media was unable to contextualize Biden’s answer to Lopez’s question, giving the impression that Biden mistook Trump for George W. Bush.
Gigs start at 8pm ET. About 12 minutes after the event, Lopez asked Biden, “If someone has not decided yet, or can think about not voting, why should they vote and why should they vote for you?”
Biden replied, “Well, first of all, the reason they should vote is that this year there are a lot of votes. I mean this is the biggest consequence – not because I’m running, but because I’m against someone. This is the most effective election, in a long time, a long time, a very long time. And the character of the country, in my opinion, is on the ballot. Come on. ”
The snippet in question is what happens after:
“Four more years of George, uh, George, uh, he, will find yourself in a position where if, uh, Trump were elected, we would be, we would be in another world.”
At 9:01 p.m. ET, about 45 minutes after the interview, @TrumpWarRoom tweeted the hint clip with the caption: “Joe Biden says he is against ‘Four more years of George, uh, George, uh. ” “
The video posted by the Trump campaign did not inform viewers that Biden was answering a question from George Lopez.
