“The Machine” may soon become MVP.
DJ LeMahieu, who came fourth in last season’s poll, was selected to the final round for the AL MVP award on Monday night alongside Jose Ramirez of India and Jose Abreu of White Sox. A win will bring midfielder Yankees his first MVP award.
The 32-year-old, who has been a key contributor to the Yankees’ free decisions this season, is the team’s most stable club in 60 games in 2020. He has won .364 leading the tournament with 1,011 OPS, base percentage of 0.421, 10 home runs and 27 RBI while playing Gold Gloves level defense. LeMahieu will become a free agent if he turns down the Yankees’ $ 18.9 million qualifying offer.
Abreu led White Sox to a groundbreaking season by hitting .317 with 19 host players and 60 RBI leading the league. He slugs .671. Ramirez won .292 with 45 league lead runs, 17 home runs, 46 RBI and 0.993 OPS.
Winners will be announced on November 12 at 6 p.m.
