FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys don’t know whether Garrett Gilbert or Cooper Rush will start in Sunday’s quarter-final against Pittsburgh Steelers, but there will likely be Ezekiel Elliott under 100%.
Elliott was strained while trying to track his stumbling back to defeat in last week’s defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles and was restricted to the last two drills. Coach Mike McCarthy said he thinks Elliott will get more done on Thursday than he did, but speaking on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he hopes run back to fight the Steelers.
“He has a ribbed that we’re getting smart on,” McCarthy said. “That’s why he’s limited [Thursday], feel better today. But our work [Saturday] will tell us a lot of things and we will bring it to the whole pregnancy training. “
Elliott is often among the first players on an early start-up pitch.
On Thursday, Elliott underwent a number of resistance training rehab sessions with full pads during the media extension session. Cowboys don’t practice on Fridays. Instead, they underwent a soft tissue acceleration and activation program and had a practice session on Saturday.
If Elliott encounters failure or restraint, Cowboys will go with Tony Pollard. They also have rookie Rico Dowdle on the 53-man list.
Elliott is in the middle of the longest streak without a 100-yard game. He is on track at just 1,042 yards, affected by losing QB Dak Prescott as well as big deficits that kept Cowboys running much.
“Tony Pollard is ready for much or whatever role we need him,” McCarthy said. “I’ve been very impressed with him for the past three weeks. He has played very well.”
McCarthy has no updates on the midfield situation with another exercise to take place. Neither Gilbert and Rush have started a game yet in their careers, but McCarthy said the game plans for both will be the same.
“We’re still working on the whole process,” McCarthy said. “I think the most important point, in terms of goals, is to make sure both Garrett and Cooper are ready to play. So I mean the agents aren’t evenly distributed. I don’t really want to go into detail. its details, but just learning from last week, with all the pressure in the match against Philadelphia, just to give us the best chance to attack, my focus is on making sure both Garrett and Cooper are all ready to play. “
