A Dutchess County Election Day pollster tested positive for COVID-19, officials announced Thursday evening, November 5.
This person worked at the East Fishkill Community Center at 890 Street 82 at Hopewell Interchange on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, Dutchess County Public Health and Behavior Commissioner, Dr. Anil Vaidian said.
Vaidian said the individual has followed all precautions – wearing a mask, disinfecting the hands, keeping a distance and not experiencing any symptoms, Vaidian said, noting that it is therefore the risk voters are minimal.
However, voters and anyone else who has visited the site on Election Day should watch for symptoms and seek testing as a precaution.

The Dutchess County Department of Public Health and Behavior̵7;s Quick Response Team is working with the individual and the Dutchess County Elections Council to complete a complete investigation and trace of the contact.
Other surveyors who have had contact with the individual are in quarantine and will be examined according to health and safety guidelines and procedures.
The town of East Fishkill carried out proper cleaning and disinfection when the Election Commission closed the polling place on Tuesday night.
“We urge anyone who voted at the East Fishkill Community Center on November 3 to be aware and alert about possible symptoms,” said DBCH Commissioner, Dr. Vaidian. “We encourage you to check in just in case.
“This is an important reminder that the virus is still alive in our communities and that we must continue to take the necessary mitigation steps to keep our communities safe – including Wear a face veil, stay away from society and wash hands often. “
Symptoms for COVID-19, which can appear 2 to 14 days after exposure, include:
- Dry cough
- Shortness of breath / difficulty breathing
- Muscle or body aches
- Loss of new taste or smell
- Sore throat
- A stuffy or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
