Corey Anderson finished off Melvin Manhoef

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Corey Anderson entered the Bellator on Thursday with a bang – or a bunch of them, really.

In the main event of Bellator 251, Anderson (14-5 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) defeated longtime Dutch boxer Melvin Manhoef and ended the match with his elbow at 2:34 of the second half.

Starting off, Anderson demonstrated a full-blown attack. Not afraid to trade with Manhoef, Anderson kept attacking until he got the game at the end of the first half. A late blow by Anderson nearly ended the game, but Manhoef survived to watch another.

However, it would all be in vain, when Anderson defeated Manhoef again early in round 2. From there, Anderson stood up and lowered a series of elbows that made Manhoef bleed until referee Todd Anderson intervened.

31

-year-old Anderson signed for Bellator in August after he asked to be released from the UFC.

With the win, Anderson scored back in the winning column after losing to the newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Jan Blachowicz by knockout in the first round. Anderson has won 5 of the last 6 matches

The loss marks a two-match winning record for Manhoef, who said the previous match would be his second to last MMA match. Manhoef, 44, is a lifelong martial artist and retired in boxing. He wants his last MMA match in his home country of the Netherlands.

Bellator 251 takes place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card is broadcast on CBS Sports Network after prelims on MMA Junkie.
