Concept: How Apple can use MagSafe to increase the battery life of the iPhone 12

Along with the iPhone 12, Apple revived the MagSafe brand for a new line of magnetic accessories for the iPhone. Early accessories in the MagSafe lineup included the carrying case, Leather Wallet and the MagSafe Charger, but a new concept today from Parker Ortolani envisions how MagSafe could be used for external power.

Apple has introduced Smart Battery Cases for generations of iPhones before. The design of the Smart Battery Cover is almost the same, with a hunched design on the back and is physically connected to the Lightning port of the iPhone.

Parker’s concept of the MagSafe Battery for iPhone 12 envisions a battery pack that will attach magnetically to the back of your iPhone or the back of an iPhone case. It will essentially offer a modular approach to the iPhone 1

2 battery case, allowing you to keep a case on your device but choose and choose when the actual battery itself is attached.

“Get some extra power just by attaching the MagSafe battery to the back of the iPhone 12”, conceptually describes. And what’s more, the Lightning port might still be completely free as the iPhone 12 can be charged via battery on the MagSafe patch.

MagSafe accessories provide up to 15W of wireless charging power for iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. This isn’t as fast as the 20W charging that can be achieved through fast charging with a Lightning to USB-C cable, but it’s twice as fast as a regular 7.5W Qi charging. The iPhone 12 mini can be charged at 12W with MagSafe.

And for concerns about the magnetic field strength of MagSafe technology, Parker said:

This is absolutely powerful enough to stay connected to your iPhone if the magnet Apple built into the battery is stronger than something like a wallet or charger.

What do you think about this concept? How do you think Apple can use MagSafe technology in new ways in the future? Let us know in the comments!
