PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) – Golden Corral announced that it will be closing indefinitely the Peoria venue by the end of Sunday.
The shutdown was due to financial costs and the burden caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Golden Corrals owner Phil Caplis blamed Governor Pritzker for the shutdown.
“Pritzker’s words and actions directly discouraged all of Illinois’ restaurant supporters. Illinois’ hospitality sector is a proud and strong community, and instead, he did nothing to protect it, and instead harmed us. The burdens on us and the forced closure of our facility paralyzed us, ”Caplis said.
Caplis also said he is grateful for the staff̵7;s resilience despite the pandemic.
“I am grateful for the resilience of my staff. We recruited 53 people after we closed the Golden Corral and it hurt me that we could no longer afford to continue in business. At the highest level of sales, we employed 95 people. Unfortunately, we do not expect to see those numbers again and our current sales levels are not financially sustainable. If necessary, we will reuse the building ”.
