Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State’s Justin Fields and other top college football stars on Sunday appear to have agreed in their views to play the 2020 season despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Lawrence and Fields were among those who tweeted a statement under the Power 5 conference logo – ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, SEC and Pac-12 – with hashtags #WeAreUnited and #WeWantToPlay. Their statement included a list of requirements to ensure the season was safe for all the students-athletes who decided they wanted to step onto the football field.

“We all want to play football this season,” the statement said. “Establishes collectively authorized health & safety procedures and procedures to protect college athletes against COVID-19 at all conferences throughout the NCAA. Give players the opportunity to opt out and respect their decision. Eligibility guarantees whether player chooses to play seasonally or not. Use our voices to establish open communication and trust between players and officials; eventually created the College Football Player Association [with] representation of players of all Power 5. conferences ”
Lawrence also tweeted separate messages about the upcoming season and why he thinks the student-athlete should be able to compete.
“People are more risky, if not more risky, if we don’t play. All players will be taken home in their community, where social isolation is difficult and medical care and costs will be placed on the family if they contract with covid19, ” wrote star defender.
“That’s not to mention players who come from situations that are not good for them / their future and have to come back to that. Football is a safe haven for many people. We are more susceptible to a virus in our everyday life than we do playing soccer. Having a season also encourages – “

“Players must be safe and take all appropriate precautions to try to avoid covid because the season / teammates are safe. Without the season, as we have seen, people would not move away from society or wear a mask and take the appropriate precautions. “
Other top soccer stars followed suit.
It’s not clear what the Power 5 conferences are thinking about the 2020 season. Each conference has created an in-conference schedule for each team to limit domestic travel. The ACC even included Notre Dame in the scheduling process.

Sources told ESPN that the trustees met on Sunday to discuss the possibility of not playing football in the fall. In the end, however, no decision was made. The presidents of the Big Ten are said to be ready for college football and want to see if other conferences feel the same way.
The Central American Conference is the Rugby Division’s first conference to push fall sports in the spring.
