The Beverly Hills Police Department is mobilizing its full force, and more, and they’ve been showing off what they’ve been getting every day since Saturday … to the disappointment of law enforcement. Laws around … Beverly Hills thinks basically inviting violence this week.
Beverly Hills City Council voted to pour $ 4.8 million into security around the election. They have hired SWAT members from Santa Paula, armed private security firms and additional equipment to protect the city and its 35,000 residents from violence.
There’s a lot of equipment, including armored SWATs, guns and a lot of them.
The City Council has authorized the police to begin “a full deployment of the sworn and not sworn employees working 12-hour shifts” starting last Saturday and the Sheriff and Mayor said the force display will continue this week. Perhaps, the idea is to make sure everyone sees Bev Hills as meant for business, so violent shooters should stay away from City. As TMZ reported, there is one a large presence on the street This weekend, with armored vehicles and armed police everywhere.
The scene was repeated on Monday with a similar show of force.
This is the problem. Senior sources from the LAPD and other law enforcement agencies told TMZ they were shocked when the BHPD hit the streets with a pre-election force show. As a very high law enforcement source told us, “This is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. The city is essentially challenging people to come to City to confront the government.” That source said Council might have good intentions, but flaunting real force would make the City unsafe if looting or riot occurred.
Over the weekend, there have been massive anti-fascist and pro-Trump protests in Bev Hills, and it has caused tense police to declare rallies illegally assembled. The police show up in riot clothes to break things down.
There have been a number of protests in Beverly Hills over the past 5 months, so there are reasons for BHPD to be vigilant, but law enforcement officials from other agencies say it is a must. And another is to show the world the range of police presence with armored vehicles and police in riot gear.
A Beverly Hills spokesperson told TMZ, “The City of Beverly Hills is a specific target for protests and protests. The city is taking steps to ensure it remains safe.”
