Apple released iOS 14.2 with new emojis and wallpapers, support for HomePod Intercom, and more

After releasing the Candidate Edition released last week, iOS 14.2 is now available to all iPhone users. Apple has also released iPadOS 14.2 as well as iOS 12.4.9 for older devices.

iOS 14.2 includes a host of new changes and features, including over 100 new emojis as well as new wallpapers. There’s also support for iPhone 12 Holster with MagSafe, though we don’t yet have a release date for that accessory.

Elsewhere, iOS 14.2 brings refurbished detection controls to the lock screen alongside redesigned AirPlay 2 controls in Control Center. One of the other new changes in iOS 14.2 is a brand new Shazam switch that can be added to Control Center.

To add the new Shazam music recognition toggle button to Control Center, first make sure you̵

7;re running the developer beta of iOS 14.2, coming today. After that, open the Settings app, select “Control Center”, then look for Shazam under the “More Controls” heading. You can then add the Shazam switch and rearrange it as you see fit.

iOS 14.2 also brings optimized charging for AirPods and AirPods Pro. This feature is designed to reduce battery aging and prolong the overall life of your AirPods battery. This means iOS 14.2 will learn how and when you charge your AirPods and wait until it thinks you are about to unplug them from the charger to 100% charge.

Here are the new features in iOS 14.2:

  • More than 100 new emojis, including animals, food, faces, household objects, musical instruments, sexist emojis, etc.

  • Magnifier can detect nearby people and report their distance using the LiDAR sensor found in iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max
