Cowboys started third in four on Sunday as rookie Ben DiNucci played the Eagles.
They hope DiNucci has played his last game this season.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on his radio show Friday that he is looking forward to having Andy Dalton back in the squad for the Week 9 match against the Steelers.
But manager Mike McCarthy said on Monday that Dalton is still in concussion.
“Andy hasn’t officially deleted the protocol,” McCarthy said. “When we get over that, we’ll announce it to you.”
Dalton was injured by an illegal blow by Washington defender Jon Bostic in Week 7. That forced the Cowboys to dig deep into the depth chart for Sunday, and they only got nine points and 265 yards on defeat Eagles.
Cowboys are third in the NFL in terms of scores in the five matches Dak Prescott started, averaging 32.6 points per game. He came out after 44 attacking plays in Week 5 before the Giants.
In the three matches since then, Cowboys have scored a total of 22 points. Their only loss in the last three games has been a 1-yard pass from Dalton to Amari Cooper with 2:48 left in a bold defeat to the Cardinals.
Cowboys take first place in terms of yardage with Prescott, who leads the league in passing.
“No. 1, it started with Dak,” McCarthy said of the team’s recent offensive struggles. I mean he’s playing at a high level. Obviously, a ton of production [lost]But I think it’s also a combination of other injuries. As we’ve talked over and over again here, losing in the attack line, when you lose a few veterans in one position, it’s obviously an increased tension ”.
