After days of conflicting reports about his readiness for Thursday night’s match against San Francisco 49ers, the Green Bay Packers rerun Aaron Jones is officially set to play for the first time in three weeks. After ESPN reported that Jones was expected to match any pre-match setbacks, the Packers announced that he would, in fact, be active for Week 9.

This came hours after Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network pointed out that Jones could hardly see a big role, or even play a role, despite being spurred on by a run back. An unexpected addition to Packers̵

7; injury report ahead of the Houston Texans team 7th week trip, Jones missed two consecutive games while recovering from a calf problem, despite initially appearing before Week 8 that Jones is preparing to play against the Minnesota Vikings.

Even as Jones works against the defeated 49ers on Thursday, all signs suggest he will share the running workload with reserves Tyler Ervin and Dexter Williams, who recently came from the practice team. Green Bay, after all, gets an extra three days of rest in preparation for Week 10 against Jacksonville Jaguars – a time Jones can imagine to fully recover.

Jones, 25, who exploded in 2019 with 1,084 fast-paced yards and 16 ground-ups leading the NFL, is in a year on contract with Packers. He was the stable leader in Matt LaFleur’s backyard while still in good health, overcoming a total of 550 meters from the script along with seven touches in the first five games of the season.
